Fat Facts

Abstract:
Dr. John McDougall, along with numerous others, has produced ample evidence that fat is harmful in the diet. A nonfat diet is defined not as one with no fat at all, but as one with no fat added in the preparing of food. For example, there is fat in almost all foods, such as oatmeal, potatoes, and rice. Four facts about fat include:

FACT #1: FAT-FREE DIET MEANS “FOODS ARE PREPARED WITHOUT THE ADDITION OF FAT.”
FACT #2: GOOD AND PLENTIFUL NUTRIENTS COME FROM EATING PLANTS
(AND OVER-NUTRITION FROM EATING ANIMALS)
FACT #3: EXTRA FAT IS HARMFUL TO HEALTH.
FACT #4: THAT PYRAMID STUFF WE ALL LEARN SO MUCH ABOUT IS WRONG
AND THEY KNOW IT. IT’S FAULTY CONCLUSIONS—WHATEVER THAT FALLACY
IS KNOWN AS…
After mulling over these facts, it is clear that a nonfat diet is healthful for the body at all ages and that such a diet is beneficial. I conclude with several research statements, not very concise however, that support the evidence. If you are interested in getting the primary research for those statement, respond to this blog with the statement included and I will bring forth the reference(s).

    i was just chuckling at how when someone changes their eating habits to no-fat, or even low-fat sometimes, people will criticize them (to make themselves feel better, i assume) saying, "you need SOME fat in your diet".
    really? obese america, we need SOME fat??? is that REALLY THE CASE?! do we NEED fat?!?!
    how about ...we ALL change our eating habits to no-fat and have longer, healthier, happier lives. let's do it to stay cancer-free. let's loose some weight... as americans. together. without criticism.

    Marsha Maureen Robertson I'm NOT! There are many different types of fat--in fact, your brain is about 60% fat! While I agree that Americans eat too much fat--I think the real problem is that they eat too much BAD fat. Stick to good fats--like the fat found in nuts,... salmon, eggs, milk/yogurt and avocados--remove fats from your diet--and you'll be doing your brain and body a huge disservice.

    Lindsey Bradley Yes-- we NEED good fats- a balance. Without appropriate healthy fats your body will eventually pull from body stores AKA your brain etc.
    And a fat free diet doesn't prevent cancer- I think I'd know.
    Tawna Malee Flesher how long do you think one (an average american) could thrive healthily on this diet before their bodies would start pulling FAT from their BRAIN though?!
    Lindsey Bradley Well that's an asinine question until the parameters of "average American” are established.

    Until one can completely understand and integrate all digestive, circulatory, endocrine, immune, lymphatic, muscular, nervous, reproductive, respira......tory, skeletal, and urinary systems and discover EXACTLY what perfect stasis must exist in each, there is no “Cure All.”

    Then one must establish the exact metabolic rate to discover the time line of body fat stores after all glucose consumption has ceased. AVERAGE glycogen quantities stores are depleted on AVERAGE after approx. 6 hrs. Next move onto adipose tissue (glycerol/fatty acids) for approx. 2-3days. Then onto ketone bodies (derivatives of fatty acids) which also signals the brain to cut glucose/energy requirements from approx. 120g/day to 30g because you’re starving it of necessary fats. And if one knows ANYTHING about metabolic responses at all…you’ll know that then the body goes on to breakdown muscle protein.

    Essentially stating that the “Average fat American doesn’t need ANY FAT” is as asinine and ignorant of a blanket statement as stating “ALL blonde's are stupid.”

    Neither of which is 100% accurate 100% of the time. 

    And I'm done with this....much more important things to do with my time. I just hate leaving a question such as yours under addressed when it's presented to me.
